  Description and annotations
This beautiful masseria leaves you breathless as soon as you are in front of it for its massiveness, the beauty of its whitewashed walls and for its sober architecture. You really feel that sense of the past, of history… a sense of magic. It has been carefully restored according to traditional techniques and materials but also to modern Bio-Architecture. Accommodation in Masseria Luce features six B&B rooms and two self catering apartments in the converted outbuildings of the property. The rooms are cosy, comfortable and have been furnished with great charm in respect of local craftsmanship and style. The rooms have old-fashion names of famous women of history or literature –so…a tribute to women! “Elisabetta” and “Paolina” offer a self catering formula: “Elisabetta” (4/6 sleeps), inside the courtyard on the ground floor, features lovely barrel vault interiors with two double bedrooms, a small living room with double sofa-bed, fully equipped kitchen with fireplace, bathroom + washing machine and shady outdoor terrace where guest can relax under a nearby ancient carob tree. “Paolina” (2/4 sleeps), ideal for couples or families with little children owing to the one-lounge bedroom, is set on the ground floor in the masseria. This lovely apt. is on two levels: downstairs a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom; upstairs a barrel vault double bedroom built within an “alcove” plus two single beds; outside guest can relax under a large shady terrace. B&B Accommodation These cosy four B&B rooms and family apartments have been built in the old stables: “Giulia” and “Matilde” each have a double room with bathroom and include air-conditioning, heat, TV, fridge, private entrance and shady patio. “Beatrice” and “Lucrezia” each feature one double bedroom, one room with one single bed, small kitchen, private entrance and shady patio. Breakfast is Italian style and is served in the breakfast lounge or outside. It includes coffee/tea, cappuccino, cornetto (delicious homemade pastry served empty or with cream, jam, chocolate), fresh local fruits and fresh ricotta-cheese. Meticulously restored in respect of its innate nature, Masseria Luce now offers an ideal holiday of relax, culture, enjoyment and good traditional Puglian cooking. Ideal is also its keen location sandwiched between the fabulous Valle d’Itria and the magical trullis of Alberobello and grottoes of Castellana, just minutes from the golden sandy beaches and blue sea of Capitolo. As already mentioned, Masseria Luce has an ideal location being just minutes from the State Road#16 which connects the north Bari area with the Salento, territories rich of art, history and tradition where you can admire the old medieval sites, stunning cathedrals in Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque style, castles and masserias. It is really easy and quick from Masseria Luce to reach the nearby towns and attractions: Monopoli, boats an important historical centre, harbour and coastline that reaches the sandy beaches and rocky coves of Capitolo known for its nightlife too. Fasano, features sites like the Torre Canne spa, the fishing village of Savelletri with the nearby golf cub, the green Selva di Fasano with its trullis, Safari Zoo + Fantasy Park for children. The archaeological site of Egnathia with its museum The fascinating white city of Ostuni The capital of the trullis Alberobello looks like fairy land Martina Franca, Locorotondo, Cisternino, elegant and whitewashed, looking down on the magical Valle d’Itria famous for its concentration of trullis and for its festival of folklore Polignano, wonderful "balcony" on the sea; Carnival Putignano The grottoes of Castellana relly amazing! Grottaglie features beautiful examples of Puglian ceramics. Within an hour drive –max two hrs- it is worth visiting: the city of Bari with its beautifully restored old town, the Romanesque Basilica church of San Nicola, the Cathedral and Castle; Trani features a unique white Romanesque cathedral which seems suspended over the sea; Superb Lecce, the capital of Baroque, needs no further comment; Castel del Monte, ancient hunting site of Frederick II of Swabia-called “Redbeard”- fascinating place to visit for the correspondences that link this king to the mysteries of the pyramids. And so many other places and things to do, for example, why not go to Matera, world heritage site for its “sassi” (once inhabited rock shelters), in the region of Lucania, which is about two hours drive and visit the same places where Mel Gibson shot his film “The Passion”, a very suggestive experience.
